Join us in the 10:10 challenge

2009 09 18 - 04:34 | Jeremy

You may have come across the new climate change campaign, 10:10. It launched last week, and it’s the brainchild of Franny Armstrong, the director of The Age of Stupid. The concept is simple: reduce your carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.

10% is an achievable target for most of us as individuals, and it’s not beyond most organisations or companies either. The challenge has already been taken up by the entire cabinet and the opposition front bench, along with several councils, schools and hospitals, charities and workplaces. If enough people set themselves the target, it could end up being an official nationwide pledge, and something the government can formalise at Copenhagen in December.

We've signed up as Transition Luton, and we're going to try and reduce our household emissions. Stay tuned for a footprint workshop soon - we'll work them out together, so we can set ourselves actual targets. Should be a fun activity too!

We've also decided to invite Luton Council to sign up, and we've drafted a letter. A few of us signed it at the Transition social on wednesday night. If you weren't there, but would like to add your name, leave your name on a comment at the end of this post, and I'll add it to the petition. I'll send the letter this week, so act fast...

Visit the 10:10 website for all the details.
