Transition Luton

Aims

Aims

We live in a big town and so it's only right that we have big ambitions!

  • We aim to build resilience in Luton, making us less vulnerable to future crises.

  • We aim to build community, getting people working alongside their neighbours.

  • We aim to reduce our energy use, and reduce our dependence on oil.

  • We aim to build local business, so that our jobs aren't dependent on multinational corporations and global markets.

  • We aim to reduce the amount we throw away, encouraging creative approaches to waste.

  • We aim to lower Luton's carbon emissions.

  • We aim to speak positively and hopefully about the future.

A cheerful disclaimer:

Transition Towns may be one of the fastest growing movements in the world at the moment, but that doesn't mean that we have all the answers! There's no step-by-step process for re-imagining our lifestyles. Everything we do is an experiment, and we don't know if we'll be successful.

What we do know is this: if we wait for the government to fix everything, it will be too late. If we all act as individuals, it we be too little. If we act as communities, it might be just enough, just in time.
