We are a growing group of people working together to create a vibrant, resilient and low carbon Luton.
The world faces a series of challenges going into the new century - climate change, rising oil prices, and an unstable economic system. These will all affect Luton too, and we want to make sure that we're as prepared as we can be. That means generating more of our energy, promoting sustainable transport, supporting local business, encouraging local democracy, and rebuilding community spirit.
By re-localizing important goods and services, we can build a stronger town that is less vulnerable to recession, a future oil crisis or a changing climate. But it's more than that - it's also an opportunity to make new friends, learn forgotten skills, and make Luton a happier, healthier place to live.
Transition Luton is a grassroots movement, mobilising local volunteers to get involved in their own streets and communities. One project at a time, we'll be building community and learning to live more sustainably - growing more of our own food, insulating homes, changing the way we travel, all kinds of creative and uniquely 'Luton' solutions for living better in our town.
Transition Towns are for everybody, and there are lots of ways to get involved, whether your passion is for food, energy, education, politics, art, faith, transport, business, housing... Everyone is welcome, and everybody has a contribution to make. Join us at one of our events, or join one of our action groups working on specific issues.
